Paddleboarding Across Kal Lake!

Hey guys!

So this is going to be my first solooooo post! Sometimes I like to adventure on my own and if my man isn't up for it then I usually still make it happen!

In this case my mom and I decided to go out for a paddle one afternoon and it somehow turned into me convincing her to join me in paddling across Kal Lake (roughly 16km) when we had literally paddleboarded maybe 3 times. Maybe.

Here's the pictures from our little afternoon outing on the boards which I really enjoyed and actually found a whole new love for. This was MY first time.

I found an event on Facebook that was a fundraiser for the Okanagan Rail Trail which I've talked about it my Winter post! Basically two awesome ladies wanted to get as many people as they could to paddle across the lake and run the trail from Oyama to Vernon in support of the trail. So I decided I wanted to be one of those people! I was a bit nervous as I wouldn't know anyone and I was not at alllll experienced at this kind of thing and had a feeling I would be near the back. My mom agreed to join me so we set off early that morning to be at the starting line for 9am.

We all set off into the gorrrrgeous morning light and started our journey!

These are all phone photos so the quality isn't 5 star but this experience was absolutely incredible. Bursting out of my comfort zone, putting my body and mind to the test and enjoying a whole new perspective of Kal Lake like I had never, ever seen before. I couldn't believe how breathtaking the views were. The water was emerald green in the morning and the sun was shining down at an angle that made the whole lake shine and sparkle. It was one of those moments you know you'll have etched into your memory forever.

We all took a short break at Kekuli Bay and enjoyed snacks, water and chats with new friends and at this point the sun really started to put off some heat. We were half way there and in the second half I took multiple breaks to soak myself in the lake for a moment of refreshment. I also went in between standing and sitting on my board for this journey. It was actually pretty fun and I seemed to move even faster when I was paddling on my board sitting like I was in a canoe. Once we could see Kal Beach it went by quickly and we were there in almost no time. We passed Rattlesnake Point which also provided a gorgeous view I had never seen before.

We ended the paddle feeling accomplished and managed to even get some great group shots.

I hope to fill my life with tons of experiences like this and also plan to paddle the lake again next year AND to invest in my own inflatable board so I can take it to all the incredible lakes we visit!
